Join MELODY Workshop in Dongguan, China

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nopporn Rujisamphan, principal investigator, and researchers from the project took part in the MELODY Workshop, held from 23 to 27 November 2026 in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China. The workshop covered the physics of muons and the use of pulsed muon beams in advanced materials research.

During the workshop, international experts taught the team about:

  • The fundamentals of muon physics and how accelerator facilities produce muon beams
  • Muon Spin Rotation/Relaxation/Resonance (μSR) techniques for probing magnetism and local dynamics in materials at the microscopic level
  • Using pulsed muons to study ion and proton diffusion and molecular dynamics in crystal structures
  • Related technologies, including non-destructive elemental analysis with muons and industrial applications

These techniques apply directly to research on several examples including perovskite materials, which are strong candidates for high-efficiency solar cells, optoelectronic devices and energy storage. Muon techniques show atomic-scale behaviour such as ion migration and the rotation of organic cations in the lattice. Both affect how stable and efficient the materials are, and both are difficult to observe with conventional techniques.
